What is Diatomaceous Earth?

Fresh water sourced, silica-rich food grade powder also known as fossil shell flour, diatomite and kieselgur. It is a naturally-occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine powder. This fine powder is made up of the fossilised microscopic skeletal remains of hard shelled plant-like algae called diatoms.
Health Leads Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is ‘food grade’ for internal use. Not all ‘food grade’ DE is the same. The shape of the diatoms is very important; they should be tubular with holes in the centre on the walls.
DE should also be from a fresh water source as this forms a harder and sharper shell compared to a salt water source DE. Other ‘food grade’ DE may contain higher amounts of sediment and clay, making the fossil shell flour a grey/brown colour. Health Leads food grade DE has been analysed and we are satisfied that that it is the best form of fresh water DE available.

What does Diatomaceous Earth do?

Diatomaceous Earth has the ability to absorb toxins. It is a natural source of silica which is vital for calcium absorption. Silica has a large number of additional reported health benefits.

As you look at the image (right) you will see that the fossil shell flour is tubular with tiny perforations or holes in the walls. When these millions of microscopic particles move through the stomach and digestive system they absorb and attract bacteria, heavy metals, pesticides and other pathogens. This process is abrasive to parasites, which are dehydrated and killed.

Adult Suggested Use

1-2 capsules per day with a full glass of water. Best taken in the morning.
Keep hydrated. For adults only. Do not exceed daily dose.
