50g of Yellow Mustard Seeds packaged in our plant-based cellulose, compostable bags.

Small, round seeds harvested from the yellow mustard plant. They are milder than brown or black mustard seeds and are commonly used as a base for mustard condiments.

Flavour & aroma

Mildly pungent and slightly nutty when raw, with a warm, aromatic bite when cooked or toasted. Less sharp than brown mustard seeds but still capable of adding a gentle heat and complexity.

Common culinary uses

  • Condiments – classic yellow mustard, mayonnaise blends, salad dressings
  • Pickling – cucumbers, vegetables, relishes
  • Indian cuisine – tempering for curries, dals, and vegetable dishes
  • Roasts & braises – especially meats and cabbage-based dishes
  • Sauces & marinades – adds warmth and depth
  • Breads & crackers – sometimes incorporated whole or ground for flavour

Tip: Toasting the seeds lightly in oil releases their flavour and aroma, turning them nutty and slightly spicy.

Using yellow mustard seeds

  • Whole seeds: pop them in hot oil to release flavour before adding other ingredients
  • Ground seeds: can be mixed with water or vinegar to make a quick mustard paste

Quantity guide:

  • 1 teaspoon ground ≈ 1 tablespoon seeds in flavour intensity
  • Avoid overuse: Raw seeds are mild, but mustard paste can become quite sharp if left to stand

Traditional & practical benefits

(Traditional and historical use — not medical advice)

  • Digestive support – traditionally used to stimulate appetite and digestion
  • Mild warming effect – can improve circulation when used in food or poultices
  • Antimicrobial properties – used historically in condiments and pickling for preservation
  • Rich in minerals – selenium, magnesium, and small amounts of iron

  • Store in an airtight container, away from light and heat
  • Whole seeds retain flavour for 2–3 years
  • Ground seeds lose potency faster — best within 6–12 months
